Exhibition “From the other side of the dream”

The Bemberg Foundation presents from June 26 to November 1, 2020 the Fondation des Treilles collection constituted by Anne Gruner – Schlumberger (1905 -1993). The Treilles founder had a taste for collections, and knew how to mix with eclecticism and talent the rarest modern art with the most modest folk art.

All of the works on display show Anne Gruner Schlumberger’s affinities with modern art, mostly with surrealist artists. There are a number of great artists such as Brauner, Arp, Max Ernst, Dubuffet, Klee, Giacometti, François-Xavier Lalanne, Henri Laurens, Picasso, and even Takis.

Like any private collection, her collection is above all a living collection made up without preconceived ideas and based on impulse buys, meetings with artists and intimate stories.

She also hoped that after her disappearance, part of the works in her collection would go from city to city to the general public. This is the reason for this exhibition.

Curator : Danièle Giraudy, Honorary General Curator of the Museums of France, in charge of the Fondation des Treilles collections and exhibitions from 2005 to 2019.

Scenography : Constance Guisset.
